Lake Burbury

Jan 30...It really is nice to have wheels, it enables me to go to places other than around town.  This day I took a drive out to Lake Burbury, to the east of Queenstown.  There were showers around and the day was a bit dull.  I liked the light though...it gives a sombre sort of feel to the images.

The third image is a duotone.

  1. These 4 for me don't captivate like the previous ones and I think its the lack of 'rich' light. They are all just a bit flat, but.....can't do much about the weather now can you....you're clever but not quite up there with the weather gods.
Compositionally I like the first one, the framing by the trees is very effective and it looks such an inviting spot. personally the contrast in the tree one is too great. I would like to see that bunch of rushes on the left as the main foreground focus for this shot. They would be beautifully contrasted by the black of the tree shadows. The duotone is beautiful (is it my eyes or is the horizon slightly sloping?) It could very well be me as I've had an enormous weekend and am still not recovered.
The rocks I don't think has enough interest, although when I first looked at it I could see a dog face in the layout of the rocks, two eyes, and a nose with an open mouth howling (pinched up) yeah I'm probably hallucinating with total tiredness.

  2. Thanks for your thoughts Suellen.
It was a dull day with showers and I wasn't really impressed with many of the shots I took. I want to go back out to this spot on a clearer day and see what I can do.
The horizon is a little bit sloping...for some reason most of my horizons end up doing that, should take the tripod with me more often LOL. Most times I do get them straight in PS but sometimes not straight enough LOL
I see what you mean about the dog face :-)
