The Hunter

Feb 12...What started out as a day taking photos of people turned into a texture hunt...which in turn, turned into plant shots and eventually a combination of plants and textures.  Progression was the name of the game :-)  I definitely preferred to take pix of the textures and plants.

Typical Morning

Feb 11...Most mornings I wake up are like this recently.  It has been a very wet summer so far, with not many warm days at all.

Somethings a bit Different

Feb 10...The few shots I took this day were different to what I would normally take.  I think all up I took about 10 shots all day, but these ones were the ones that I liked the best.

Feb 9...I took quite a few different shots on this day...from macro to landscape, to attempting a bit of HDR.  I haven't assembled the HDR's yet so don't know if they have worked or not.

Close up Stuff

Feb 8...I decided to do a bit of close up stuff this day.  I didn't take too many shots that I liked but here are a couple that I did.

Wet Days

Feb 7...Yet another wet day on the west coast, only showers though so I was able to get out and about a bit to grab some shots.

Building Blocks

Feb 6...A friend and I went for a drive up to the top of Mt Owen seeing as the weather had cleared a bit.  This place is amazing, it changes every time we go up there.  I think this is about the 5th time I have been up there and it still takes my breath away to see it.  Such natural rugged beauty.

The afternoon light was amazing coming through the clouds.  It lit the side of Mt Sedgewick giving me a sense of peace and tranquillity.

In the Detail

Feb 5...A day for close up photography.  The weather wasn't permitting of anything else.  Lots of rain around and cloud hung low.

YES!!...chuffed...

Feb 4...Finally... my first decent shot of a snail.  For slow moving critters they do make it difficult to take photos of them ROFL....I had a few lawnmower problems this day and the little fella was spotted while trying to fix the problem.  The second shot came from the local tip.  There was a huge rubbish bin and I saw the side and had to capture the pattern.  Not sure what made it but it was certainly eye catching.

Around the House

Feb 3...I didn't venture too far from home on this day.  Instead I thought I might see what I could photograph around the house.  If you look really close you will see there is quite a lot to shoot around the house.  I am fortunate enough to live on a bush block with plenty of flowers and trees around, and also a great view.

Mountains and Holes

Feb 2...Took a trip up to Iron Blow, on the outskirts of Queenstown.  The clouds created some very nice light on the surrounding mountains.  Iron Blow is a disused mine which has filled with water.  It is a beautiful green.

Gloomy Skies...

Feb 1...The gloomy days continue and clouds hang in the sky and float across the landscape.  I really like to watch the weather and on days like this the clouds do some very interesting things.  Sometimes I wish I could get on board one and just float away, just to see where it would take me.

These days also inspire me to look a bit closer.  Find the detail and little things that are in a scene.

Cloud formation

Jan 31...I didn't take many photos that day.  The cloud formations though were quite interesting...

Yeah the images are a bit dark, but I like them that way :-)

Lake Burbury

Jan 30...It really is nice to have wheels, it enables me to go to places other than around town.  This day I took a drive out to Lake Burbury, to the east of Queenstown.  There were showers around and the day was a bit dull.  I liked the light though...it gives a sombre sort of feel to the images.

The third image is a duotone.

Macquarie Heads

Jan 29...I went for a drive in my newly acquired car to Macquarie Heads, near Strahan on the west coast.  Its a beautiful spot with many natural changes occurring all the time.  This was a beautiful day, the sun shining a little bit of cloud in the sky and a sea breeze blowing off the Southern ocean.  Many people were there enjoying driving along the beach, fishing, jet skiing and a whole host of other activities.

I was content to just wander along the beach and shoot things that caught my eye.

Playing with a new toy...

Jan 28...I got an early birthday present from a friend, a Sigma 90mm 1:2.8 Macro.  This lens gets nice and close, not a 1:1, but reasonably close, gives good detail and very nice bokeh.

This shot is from my Sigma 24-70 DG EX...

Just Awandering

Jan 27...  I felt like wandering this day so left home with no particular aims in mind, which is not usual for me.  I tried shooting the tree again, and I have got an image that is close to what I envision, but it's not quite what I want.

In this next shot I liked the patterns and colours.  The bush coming through the fence created a nice contrast.

My favourite shot of the day...

This is another shot I have been trying to pull off for a while.  Everything just seemed to fall into place, the light,  the colours, the perspective...

An Eventful Day

Jan 26...Australia Day...

I had been waiting for this day for quite some time.  For a long while I had wanted to go on the train ride between Queenstown and Strahan and when the opportunity to get tickets at a cheap price came, Mystic and I jumped at the chance.  It was a cool ride except for one little glitch...the engine derailed and we were stuck for three hours while it was put back on.

It was the first time I had an opportunity to take images from a moving vehicle.  Many images turned out blurred, as was expected, but by the end of the day I managed to figure out a way to get non blurry shots.  I filled an 8 gig sd card and half filled a 4 gig card.  I still have many images to process, despite going through and getting rid of the blurred ones :-)

Here are a few from the day...
