A New Year Begins

Well last year didn't work out exactly as I wanted it too with this blog.  Even though I did get photographs for most days, I just didn't have time to process them.  Going to have another go this year and see if I can do it.

So here goes....

  1. Looking back over some of last year's work Shane I can see some changes. You have really explored colour and light where now your use of these aspects supports the story, rather than performing a separate (and potentially disjointed)purpose. I think your close-up or micro-landscapes are a real talent and I think you do these better than the wide open vistas (not that they aren't good either - just I don't think you quite nail the light and how it tells/supports the story (mind you neither have I). I read somewhere recently that the intention is to photograph the light, not a subject...any subject will do but not any light will do....or words to that effect. I think I might rename my blog "Light Photographer" to remind me that that is what it is all about. You have done well in these 365 days of shots, you have changed/developed a style that is continuing to grow...looking forward to 2012's shots - I may not always make a comment due to time restraints but I always look! Gives me inspiration, thank you.

  2. Thank you for your inspiring comments Suellen. I was looking through the images here the other day and came to a similar conclusion to you in respects of the macro/ micro landscapes. They definitely depict a story more so than the overall views. It's like in the full on landscapes I have just point and shot the scene giving no consideration to the light falling on them...with the odd exception of course ;) I suppose it is easier to make the lighting part of the story in a smaller scene, it is more concentrated therefore the light is more easy to define and how that light falls depicts the scene in a myriad of ways.
I suppose the only thing to do is to keep getting out there and following the light, but this year I am going to make a more considered effort in 'seeing' where, when, how light changes scenes. I'll, hopefully, be doing a bit more reading as well...if I have time.
    Thank you again :)
